set a course for tomorrow.
CollegeBoundGPS is here to help students and parents navigate the college selection process.
My goal is to make the college search an enjoyable and positive experience, while honoring each student's unique ability, personality, and interests. My services provide the tools to find, apply, and gain acceptance into a best fit college, while minimizing the pressure and stress associated with the process.
What is CollegeBoundGPS?
To craft the best possible college list, I have each student complete a comprehensive assessment that explores their personal and academic goals, a review of their academic records (GPA, test scores, etc.), their interests in majors and possible career paths, and what is most important to them about their college experience.
I review each student's assessment results and use it as a guide when creating an initial list of potential college choices. I also factor in financial constraints for each family. From there, we work together to get the perfect list of schools and begin the application process.
I want to make my services available at any time during a student’s college search and application process. I welcome all students and families whether they are searching for a comprehensive package or are just seeking a few hours of assistance.

I began professionally working with young adults and their families in 2001 after I recieved my Masters in Social Work from Loyola University. During this time I found my true passion of helping young people discover their potential.
In 2004, after completing my Life Coaching Certification, I worked at a small internationally recognized private program that helped students prepare for a successful college experience. Throughout these same years I was also preparing my own two daughters to launch their college careers and I became a certified College Counselor through the UCLA.
Being a college counselor allows me to guide and coach students to make well informed decisions as they consider their future path. Working one-on-one with a student allows time to explore their interests, abilities, achievments and challenges.
Each year I spend a month's time visiting college campuses, talking to admissions counselors, researching schools and programs to assure my students are making decisions based on current information. I also attend professional conferences and workshops to broaden my knowledge base and network with colleagues.
Each year I spend one month traveling and visiting colleges around North America, Canada and Europe. I tour campuses and cities, speak with admissions counselors, and get a feel of different programs each school offers.
I do this hands-on research to assure students are making their decisions based on current, comprehensive and honest information about colleges.
Click on any pin on the map to see a list of schools I have visited in that state or country.
It is best to be prepared and educated from start to finish. We are always available to give hands on help and answer any questions you may have about the college selection process, but if you want to do some research on your own, the list of resources below is a great place to start.
"Joy helped me from the college search process to the application process. Her in-depth knowledge of colleges helped me choose the right one for me. We discussed what I wanted in a college and she came back with an informative list of colleges. With her help, the college application was speedy. I will be attending my first college choice in the Spring of 2012."
"Joy has helped many students of ours in the college search and application process. Her professional warmth and thoughtful guidance allows students to find their best fit college. Her mental health background also is helpful in understanding how to identify and reduce the anxiety associated with the process, and work with the whole family. I highly recommend Joy and trust her abilities to get students to a college where they will thrive and grow."
